What’s the Best Backing for Name Tapes?

When choosing name tapes, your backing can make a big difference in how well they hold up!

Here’s a quick rundown of your options:

Sew-On Name Tapes

Sew-on name tapes are the most durable. They’re stitched directly onto your uniform or gear, so you don’t have to worry about them coming loose. If you’re dealing with harsh conditions or want something that will last, sew-on is your best bet.

Hook & Loop Name Tapes

Hook and loop name tapes offer flexibility and convenience. They can easily be attached and removed, making them perfect for situations where you might need to switch names or labels often. This is a great choice if you need to adjust your gear on the fly.

Iron-On Name Tapes

Iron-on name tapes are super easy to apply. Just use an iron to stick them onto your fabric. While quick and straightforward, they might not be as long-lasting as sew-on or hook and loop options, especially if you’re putting them through a lot of wear and tear.

How to Sew on Name Tapes to a Uniform

If you’re going with sew-on name tapes, here’s a simple way to get them on your uniform:

1. Prep Your Gear: Lay your uniform flat and smooth out any wrinkles.
2. Place the Tape: Position the name tape where you want it, usually above a pocket or on the designated spot.
3. Secure It: Use pins or a quick basting stitch to keep the tape in place while you sew.
4. Sew the Tape: Using a sewing machine or needle and thread, stitch around the edges of the name tape. Make sure your stitches are close to the edge for a secure hold.
5. Finish Up: Trim any stray threads and double-check that the tape is firmly attached.
